This output looks at how retired Nottingham citizens engage with arts venues and creative practice. Participants consider how the arts are good for personal wellbeing and civic cohesion. The Bigger Picture features candid interviews with retired people about their experience of using major arts venues including; Nottingham Contemporary, Broadway Cinema, Lakeside Arts Centre and New Art Exchange.
Focus groups engage in lively discussion about the impact of government-led austerity measures on the county's cultural sites including; Newstead Abbey, Annesley Hall and the D.H. Lawrence Heritage Museum. These sites, associated with two of Britain's most important international literary figures were critical in securing Nottingham's accreditation as a UNESCO City of Literature.
